Morton Hall Detainee Visitor Group

MHDVG was formed in July 2011 following the opening of Morton Hall Immigration Removal Centre (detention centre) in Swinderby, Lincolnshire. The centre holds up to 392 people and is very isolated in its location

The purpose of the group is to support the people detained there by providing a link to the outside world.

Detention invariably affects people mentally and emotionally. Visits from people who care, people that aren’t part of the system that keeps them looked up, are invaluable for detainees’ emotional wellbeing.

We arrange to visit those detained at Morton Hall and stay in contact by phone to reduce the isolation that is all too common in detention centres. As well as providing friendship we are able to signpost the people we support to other services.
